JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston City employee is manually running a traffic light at a Johns Island intersection to test the timing.

City officials say the two-week test is being conducted at the intersection of Maybank Highway and River Road.

The intersection is being manually operated between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., according to Interim Traffic and Transportation Director Robert Somerville.

Officials say the manual operation of the signal is to review and test timing settings to allow better flow through the intersection.

The data collected during the test will lead to a re-timing of the light, which the city says it will do prior to completion of the citywide traffic signal retiming project.

Somerville said crews will return for more testing once school begins.
