ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office says a woman they had been searching for died in a fatal car accident.
Authorities announced on Sunday that they were searching for 67-year-old Beverly Creech who was supposed to meet her husband at Hardees in Bamberg at noon on Saturday, then go to her sister's home in Orangeburg.
On Monday afternoon, OCSO officials said Creech was located and had been involved in a fatal car accident.
Investigators with the Bamberg County Sheriff's Office say Creech was found inside her vehicle.
An SCDOT worker discovered a boat landing sign that had fallen down when he was out checking signs. When he went to find the sign, authorities said, he saw the vehicle and found the woman inside.
Investigators said the woman ran a stop sign at a T-intersection at Shilly Road and Charleston-Augusta Road and went into woods, through kudzu, and into woods again. According to BCSO officials, the kudzu vines went back up like no one had been through there, so their search and the SLED helicopter did not see the vehicle.
Creech was close to going into the river, authorities said. Sheriff Ed Darnell thinks she died instantly.
