Attorneys want to make sure impartial jury selected for Slager trial

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager wants to make sure he has an impartial jury for his upcoming trial.

Slager is charged with murder in the shooting death of Walter Scott last April.

The defense filed a motion on Monday to expand jury voir dire which is a more in-depth way of selecting potential jurors for a fair and impartial trial.

Attorneys want the court to use a pre-trial jury questionnaire.

The defense cites the high profile case, pervasive media accounts and opinions offered regarding Slager's prosecution.

The murder trial is set to begin Oct. 31.

A hearing for Slager's case is scheduled for Tuesday.
