The accident occurred near the intersection of North Rhett Avenue and Yeamans Hall Road, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones.

Jones said the car was traveling East on North Rhett Avenue when he ran off the right side of the road, lost control and hit the curb. The car then went into a ditch and struck several trees before returning to the roadway, he said. The passenger was then ejected from the vehicle, he said.

The driver was transported to Trident Hospital for minor injuries.

The crash happened shortly after a Berkeley County deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran said.

The Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation into the crash.
