CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - An inmate who Charleston County deputies say assaulted the accused suspected Emanuel AME church shooter is speaking out.
Dwayne Stafford was released on bond Friday night.
Last week, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office says Stafford got out of his cell, and assaulted Dylann Roof as Roof was about to shower.
Stafford spoke with the group Black Collective about what happened.
"I can't say that he deserve to die, because I'm not a judge, but I got the power to bust his (expletive)," Stafford said.
Roof's attorneys did not press any charges in the incident.
The sheriff's office is still looking into how Stafford was able to get to Roof in the first place.
Stafford was in jail on strong armed robbery, assault and charges for lying to police.
He posted bond last Friday after being in jail for nearly two years on those charges.
