CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The much-debated project to extend I-526 may have found new life.
At first, the South Carolina Bank Board voted to cancel the project because Charleston County missed a deadline to submit a plan to fund its part of the $720 million project.
Now that same bank board has set a new deadline of Sept. 13.
There's a lot of money at stake in the plan to extend 526 to Johns and James Islands. This extension to the extension should give all sides time to get their acts together.
Or better yet, because there are such strong feelings on both sides, put the issue on the ballot and let the voters decide.
