BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The victim in a fatal crash on Highway 17A at I-26 in Berkeley County on Tuesday morning has been identified.

Edward Milton Thornley IV, 37, of Moncks Corner, died at the scene of the crash, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said.

Thornley's death was ruled accidental and he was not wearing a seat belt, Salisbury said.

The crash was reported by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety at approximately 9 a.m. and involved two vehicles, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said. Thornley's car was traveling south on Highway 17A when it struck an SUV attempting to make a left turn onto I-26, he said.

After impact, Thornley's vehicle overturned and he was partially ejected, Southern said.

The driver of the SUV was not injured in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol, Southern said.
