Armed robber steals man's dentures in Orangeburg County

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Orangeburg County deputies are searching for a suspect who robbed a man at gunpoint and stole his dentures.

According to an incident report, the armed robbery happened outside of the Walmart on North Road at 4:30am on August 4.  The victim said he was sitting in his parked car when a man approached and asked for a cigarette before pulling out a handgun and demanding money.  The victim reported the man then reached into his pants pocket and stole his lower dentures and pocket change.  The dentures are valued at $400 and the pocket change is valued at $1.

The suspect then entered the passenger side of a cream-colored two-door car, which left the scene.

The victim told Live 5 News that he will be visiting a dentist this week to attempt to get a replacement set of dentures, though he does not have insurance.  He says he feels lucky to have not been injured.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office released a surveillance picture of the suspect car, as well as a picture of a person of interest who may have knowledge of the crime.  Tips can be submitted through Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
