Charleston, SC (AP) -

With the anniversary of South Carolina's historic floods approaching, officials say the ongoing recovery from last October's storm will take not months but years.
The state is still working with about 3,600 clients whose homes or apartments need repairs and many of whom are elderly, disabled or impoverished. Many live in hard-hit areas of the Pee Dee and are in damaged homes because they have nowhere else to go.
The state is reviewing applications from farmers for some of $40 million state lawmakers approved for farm aid. And federal officials are reviewing a state plan for using millions of federal dollars for home repairs.
Last October's rains dropped upward of 2 feet of rain in the state. The long-term recovery from such an event is generally three to seven years.
