A Berkeley County high school teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.
Donald Blair, Sr., a mechatronics teacher at Goose Creek High School, is charged with criminal sexual conduct and sexual battery, according to Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran.
Detectives were investigating a complaint from a student in reference to a consensual sexual relationship between Blair and a female victim, Cochran said. Investigators believe Blair engaged in a sexual relationship with the student, who was 15 at the time, in late 2014 and early 2015.
The relationship took place on the grounds of Goose Creek High School, investigators say.
Blair was being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing Tuesday morning.
Blair is currently on administrative leave, according to Berkeley County School District spokesperson Katie Orvin.
"School and district officials have followed all procedures as outlined by district policy, taking immediate action upon learning of the allegations," Orvin said.
The district is continuing to fully cooperate with law enforcement in the investigation, she said.
