Charleston School of Law to announce new developments in George Stinney case

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston School of Law is set to hold a news conference Friday to announce a new development in the 1944 case of a teenager executed for two murders.

George Stinney, Jr., a 14-year-old from Alcolu, is the youngest person to have been executed in the United States during modern times.

In 2014, a state judge vacated his murder conviction after finding there were constitutional violations during the original trial.

Seventy years later, the execution is still controversial.

The news conference begins at 11:30 a.m.
