CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The federal trial for a former North Charleston police officer accused in the shooting death of Walter Scott will be held next year.
A federal judge ruled on Tuesday that Michael Slager's trial will be held after the first of next year following the state's case.
Judge David Norton noted that Slager's attorney Andy Savage cannot be in two places at the same time.
Slager's murder trial is set for this year on Oct. 31.
The shooting was caught on a bystander's cell phone.
Slager faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted of murder.
He also faces a possible life sentence if convicted on the federal charges.
