Hanahan PD searching for suspect who assaulted police officer

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators with the Hanahan Police Department say they are searching for a man who assaulted a police officer. 

The incident happened on Tuesday around 2 p.m. in Otranto at the corner of South Basilica and Lombardi Lane. 

Authorities responded after receiving a 911 call regarding a suspicious man walking in and out of yards and between houses. 

"An officer from the Hanahan Police Department responded to the area and located the suspicious person," HPD officials said."During the encounter, the suspect assaulted the police officer and then fled from the scene."

According to police, additional officers from Hanahan and other agencies responded to the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, about 6-foot to 6’2" tall, weighing about 170 pounds, and was last seen wearing a dark in color t-shirt and pants. 

HPD officials released a picture of the suspect that was taken prior to the 911 call being made. The Hanahan Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this subject.
