CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - People as far north as New York with plans to head south for the Labor Day holiday on Amtrak may have to make other arrangements.
Amtrak is suspending some services that operate in the Southeast. A media spokesperson explained the changes are due to the severe weather forecast in Florida.
For example, Amtrak Train 91 operates daily between New York City and Miami. The train will not stop in Tampa or Lakeland Wednesday, but will make all remaining stops.
Trains for Thursday have been canceled. These trains are the Silver Star, Silver Meteor, Palmetto and Auto Train. Passengers are receiving alerts to make them aware of the changes.
Amtrak says passengers with travel plans can confirm their train's status, change their plans, or review refund information using a range of tools.
They may either check the rail company's website at Amtrak.com, download smartphone apps or call 800-USA-RAIL.
