Eliott Summey requesting support to construct memorial to fallen deputy

Deputy Joseph Matuskovic Deputy Joseph Matuskovic

Charleston County Chairman Eliott Summey tweeted a letter requesting support to construct a law enforcement memorial to honor Deputy Joe Matuskovic.

Two years ago, Matuskovic was shot and killed during a stand off at an Apartment off Highway 61.

If approved, the memorial would go up on Carriage Lane and Highway 61.

Summey is asking the Charleston County Legislative Delegation to make a recommendation to the Department of transportation.

Summey released the following statement:

I am pleased to share that after speaking with Representative Leon Stavrinakis and SCDOT Chairman Mike Wooten both are supporting the community's request to have the intersection of Carriage Lane & SC Highway 61 dedicated as the 'Deputy Joseph J. Matuskovic Intersection'. While this brave and honorable public servant was taken to soon it is humbling to see the support of our community unite in his remembrance. With this dedication Joe's sacrifice will never be lost on the city he called home and worked daily to protect.
