GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County deputies are investigating a shooting incident outside a Goose Creek store that left a child injured Saturday night.
Deputies responded to the Rainbow Mart on Howe Hall Road at Old Black River Road at approximately 7:33 p.m., Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran said.
Initial reports described the incident as a drive-by shooting, however Cochran said the investigation has evolved since then. He said based on what deputies have been able to determine, a couple pulled up to the store with kids in their vehicle and the woman went inside the store. Someone near the store shot at the vehicle, striking it several times, and the driver backed up and sped off to get away, he said.
When the vehicle was hit, glass fragments struck one of the children in the car, he said.
No one was hit with gunfire, deputies say.
Cochran said the father is "not working with detectives very well" but deputies are continuing to investigate what happened and a possible motive for the shooting.
No information on the gunman has been released at this point.
