SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A thunderstorm over Summerville Sunday night produced a lightning strike that stripped bark off of a large tree.

Gina Argentino, who lives in the Indian Springs subdivision across the street from the tree said the lightning hit at approximately 5:45 p.m.

"Never saw anything like it in my life," Argentino said. She said she was looking out the window when it happened.

The lightning strike blew bark 100 feet into the air and produced a giant cloud of smoke, she said.

It was so powerful it set off smoke alarms in several houses nearby.

Parts of the tree ended up three houses away, she said.

No injuries were reported.
