Emergency officials say two construction workers helped to rescue a postal carrier who was seriously injured in a car accident in Colleton County.

Colleton County Fire and Rescue officials say it happened Monday afternoon in the 1500 block of Three Mile Road.

According to officials, the SUV lost control on the gravel road, struck a ditch bank and over-turned.

"The small SUV struck a tree causing heavy damage to the vehicle," CCFR officials said."Two construction workers drove up on the accident, called 9-1-1 and assisted the woman prior to Fire-Rescue units arriving."

A report states the woman suffered multiple traumatic injuries.

She was transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Hospital in Summerville.

"Postmaster Doug Mixson Jr responded to the scene to check on his employee," CCFR officials said."He and another carrier recovered all of the mail so it could be delivered."

Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
