COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Colleton County High School's head football coach and athletic director is on paid administrative leave as the school district investigates allegations of unprofessional conduct, according to a news release.
Officials say they don't plan to share further details on what they're calling the "pending personnel" matter involving coach Chris Collins.
Neal Smith will take on the school's head football coach responsibilities, while the athletic director responsibilities will be assumed by Lauren Townsend, the news release states.
Officials are encouraging parents to support student athletes and their athletic program during the investigation.
Collins is in his fifth year as the Cougars head coach, with an overall record of 13-36.
The coach responded to a text message by referring all questions to his attorney, Jenny Horne. Horne told Live 5 Sports that there was no timetable given for how the long the leave will last and that they plan to appeal the decision to the district.
