MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The sights and sounds of Scotland return to Boone Hall Plantation for the annual Charleston Scottish Games and Highland Gathering.
The Scottish Society of Charleston is hosting the 45th annual games on Saturday. The gathering from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. features traditional Scottish music, games, and dress along with food and activities for kids.
The Scottish Heavy Athletics are the feature of the all-day festival. Athletes from across the Southeast will compete in events such as the Sheaf Toss, the Stone of Strength and the Caber Toss. The sounds of the clans will ring through the day during the piping and drumming competition. The music may be enticing enough to try some traditional Scottish dancing.
The day will also include Rugby and Border Collie demonstrations, merchandise at the Celtic Nations Tent, a beer garden and door prizes. Games, crafts and more will be available for children 12 and younger.
Tickets are $20 for adults in advance and $25 at the gate. Admission for children six to 12 is $5. Anyone younger than six gets in free. Parking at Boone Hall Plantation will also be $5. For more information on additional events and to purchase tickets online, click here.
