JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

Detour routes and nighttime lane closures will continue for the Harbor View Road Improvements Project. There will also be a temporary nighttime detour for the Folly Road at Camp Road Intersection Improvements Project.

Charleston County Government announced that crews will close Mikell Drive and detour traffic on Sunday and Monday evening to install storm drain systems.

Charleston County Government also announced a temporary nighttime detour starting Monday on Camp Road from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

A portion of Camp Road will close to traffic from approximately 400 feet east of Folly Road to Bradford Street.

Crews will be installing drainage pipes across a 200 foot section of Camp Road in front of the AT&T building for the Folly Road at Camp Road Intersection Improvements Project. All work is weather permitting.

Crews will also conduct nighttime lane closure on Harbor View Road for the Harbor View Road Improvements project. All work is weather permitting.

Drivers will have access to all businesses and residential properties along Mikell Drive and Harbor View Road at all times.

Sunday through Thursday:

  • Nighttime lane closures will occur on Harbor View Road between Affirmation Blvd. and Mikell Drive.

The project will include the addition of a center two-way left turn lane between North Shore Drive and Affirmation Boulevard, the addition of right turn lanes at major intersections, the addition of traffic signals at Fort Sumter Drive and Mikell Drive, the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Harbor View Road and Fort Johnson Road and the addition of pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

Monday through Wednesday:

  • Westbound traffic on Camp Road will be directed onto Bradford and Prescott Streets to access Folly Road.
  • Northbound traffic on Folly Road will be directed onto Prescott and Bradford Streets to proceed east on Camp Road.

The Folly Road at Camp Road Intersection Improvements Project on James Island involves improvements to Folly Road from about 1,000 feet south of Camp Road to the intersection with Eugene Gibbs Street and Rivers Point Row, and improvements to Camp Road from West Madison Avenue to Oyster Point Row.

Improvements will relieve traffic congestion and localized flooding by adding turn lanes and upsizing drainage pipes.

Bike lanes and sidewalks will also be included in the project.
