Police: Victim of Summerville shooting had been wanted for attempted murder

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

Summerville police confirmed late Saturday the victim in an early-morning shooting at an apartment complex had been wanted in connection with a February shooting incident.

Stefon Layvon Chapman, 21, died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Dorchester County Coroner Alice Durr.

Police responded to a reported shooting at Magnolia Place Apartments on Hutson Drive at approximately 6:50 a.m. Saturday, according to Summerville Police Lt. Cassandra Williams.

When they arrived they found Chapman near a fence at the back of 100 Farmhill Road which backs up to Magnolia Place Apartments.

Late Saturday afternoon, Summerville Police Lt. Sandra Williams confirmed Chapman was wanted in February for attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Chapman was also featured on Live 5 Most Wanted.

Summerville police said witnesses had identified Chapman as the suspect in a shooting at the Creative Cuttin and Styles on North Cedar Street on Feb. 3. Investigators say the victim,who had just gotten a haircut, was hit in his left hand.
