DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators are searching for a suspect who robbed a store in St. George over the weekend.

St. George police officials say the armed robbery took place at the Dollar General on 5720 Memorial Blvd. Saturday night.

According to a report, the manager was locking up the store at 9:55 p.m. when a black male wearing dark clothing and a white bandana covering his face came up from behind and pointed a gun at the manager and ordered him back inside the store.

"The suspect ordered the manager back inside and demanded he open the store safe, all of this was happening while the suspect was pointing a gun at the manager," St. George police officials said.

Authorities say the suspect left the store with money, and as the suspect was leaving out the back door, a St. George police officer was pulling up to the building.

"Dorchester county central dispatch had received a 911 call about a suspicious person in the Dollar General parking lot and that call prompted law enforcement to respond," police said.

Investigators say the  manager told the officer that the suspect was running out the back, and the officer gave chase on foot, but lost sight of the suspect on Raysor Street.

"The officer on scene called additional officers to assist in attempting to locate the suspect, but he was not located," police said."Additionally the st. George police k-9 assisted in the search of the suspect as well."

If anyone has any information on the case you are asked to call the st. George police department or Crime Stoppers of the Low country at 1-888-crime-sc.
