WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

West Ashley High School is getting ready for its annual College Application Day.

The event runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 4 and gives high school students the chance to fill out college applications, and in many cases, without having to pay the fees.

College Application Day is recognized across South Carolina. It is designed to expose high school students to options of extending their learning beyond high school.  When it started in 2009, 12 high schools and nearly 1000 students took part around our state, according to a news release from the Charleston County School District.

By 2010, the program grew to include 57 high schools and some 15,000 students across South Carolina.

During College Application Day this year at West Ashley High, representatives from more than 30 colleges and universities will visit the school to answer questions from students and assist them in filling out applications.  As a perk, many schools will waive their application fees on that day.
