DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Dorchester County Coroner's Office has identified a man who was killed in a three-car accident in Summerville Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say 64-year-old Michael Dale Cunningham of Summerville died from the incident on the 10,600 block of Dorchester Road at 4:52 p.m.

According to SCHP officials, the accident happened at 4:46 p.m. and involved three vehicles: a 2009 Subaru, a 2000 Volkswagon, and a 2005 Honda which Cunningham was driving.

Authorities say the Honda was traveling westbound on Dorchester Road near the intersection of Orangeburg Road when it crossed the median striking the Volkswagon head on which was traveling eastbound.

The Volkswagon then spun and struck the Subaru which was also traveling eastbound.

SCHP officials say the driver of the Honda died from the accident.

According to SCHP officials, all the drivers except the driver of the Honda were wearing seatbelts.

The coroner's office said several people were transported to local area hospital for treatment. The driver of the Volkswagon was transported to Trident Medical Center with minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol is investigating.
