ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say two people are behind bars following a fatal shooting in Orangeburg County that took the life of one man.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said 31-year-old Antonio Aiken of St. Matthews and 26-year-old Deshawn Rogers of Orangeburg have each been charged with murder and also possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime in connection with a fatal Tuesday confrontation.
Aiken and Rogers were located late Tuesday evening.
Both were formally charged during a hearing Wednesday afternoon.
"This was a senseless act that could have been avoided by talking, communicating," Ravenell said. "A man is dead because of this senseless shooting."
"According to witnesses, Aiken and Rogers confronted a 40-year-old man at the junction of Lawton Street and Saint Court," OCSO officials said."The confrontation led to a dispute stemming from an earlier incident."
A report states witnesses said gunfire erupted resulting in the victim sustaining at least one gunshot wound.
He was later transported from the scene to an area hospital where he succumbed to his wounds, the report states.
