Suspect killed by deputy after attempted armed robbery, deputies say

GREENVILLE, SC (WYFF) - A suspect in an armed robbery was killed after a manhunt and a confrontation with deputies, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

The attempted armed robbery was reported at 10 a.m. Friday at a Dollar General in Greenville County in the area of Campobello near the Spartanburg County line, deputies said.

One of the employees said a man armed with a handgun demanded money. Two deputies arrived on scene at 10:04 a.m., Master Deputy Drew Pinciaro said in a news release.  Shortly after the deputies arrived, the suspect ran from the store, Pinciaro said.

Deputies chased the man, but lost sight of him, Pinciaro said.

The Greenville County Sheriff's K-9, SWAT teams and helicopter and deputies from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office searched for the man.

At about 12:50 p.m., dispatchers said a resident on Link Drive spotted a man that matched the description of the suspect.

There was a search team near that area in the woods that began canvassing the area, and a K-9 and handler spotted the suspect running through the woods behind a residence on Link Drive.
