SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A deputy with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office was involved in a motor vehicle crash earlier on Friday evening.

The crash took place on Royle Road near Harold Drive in the Summerville area of Berkeley County, at approximately 9:02 p.m.

There were two vehicles involved, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The first vehicle was a Kia, driven by a female from Goose Creek. The driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The second vehicle was a Dodge Charger patrol car. The deputy was also wearing a seatbelt.

The deputy was traveling south on Royle Road. The Kia was attempting to make a left turn from Harold Drive to go north on Royle Road.

The Kia, while making the left turn, was struck by the deputy, according to Lance Corporal Matt Southern with the SCHP. The deputy's vehicle then came to a rest in a ditch.

Both parties were transported to a hospital with minor injuries, according to reports.

The collision remains under the investigation by the SCHP.

So far, no charges have been filed against either driver.
