NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The defense team of the former North Charleston police officer is asking a state court for background information on prospective jurors.
Attorneys for Michael Slager, who is facing a murder charge in the April 4, 2015, shooting death of motorist Walter Scott during a traffic stop, filed a motion Monday seeking the information.
According to court documents, Slager's defense team said the state has government resources it uses to research jurors and the only way their client can get a fair trial is to get access to the same information.
Charleston County deputies are in the process of hand delivering summonses to 500 potential jurors right now.
Jury selection starts on Oct. 31.
