CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A number of schools have announced closures for schools on Monday.
Officials have announced that all Charleston County School District schools will remain closed for students on Monday, Oct. 10.
CCSD officials made the announcement Friday evening and included their reasons for closing the schools.
This decision was made for several reasons:
Hundreds of thousands of people (including many of our employees) that evacuated our area will be trying to return on Sunday or Monday;
Current storm projections lead us to believe there may be water damage in some of our schools; and
Several of our schools are being used as shelters. Deep cleaning will be required for these facilities, and most likely, our hard-working staff will not be able to finish those tasks until sometime on Monday.
A decision has not been made at this time regarding staff schedules for Monday.
Please continue to stay safe and follow local law enforcement's instructions.
School officials made the following announcement Saturday:
Berkeley County School District (BCSD) classes are canceled and offices are closed Monday, October 10 due to weather and road conditions resulting from the impact of Hurricane Matthew. Essential personnel including district and school administrators, maintenance and facilities, technology, school custodians, transportation supervisors, and child nutrition managers will report Monday to assess damage and prepare for the return of staff and students.
Additionally, all extracurricular activities and sporting events remain canceled and information concerning rescheduling will be released when it becomes available.
Dorchester District 2 schools will be closed on Monday per district.
Dorchester District Four schools are closed on Monday, according to school district officials.
The college will be closed Monday, Oct. 10. Another update will be provided Sunday after 6 p.m.
