CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County School District will reopen for school on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the regular start time with the exception of the following sites: West Ashley Head Start, E.B. Ellington Elementary, Jane Edwards Elementary and Minnie Hughes Elementary.
The district released the following statement:
Charleston County School District will reopen for school tomorrow, Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the regular start time with the exception of the following sites:
West Ashley Head Start
E.B. Ellington Elementary
Jane Edwards Elementary
Minnie Hughes Elementary
E.B. Ellington and West Ashley Head Start should reopen on Wednesday, October 12, 2016.
We anticipate Minnie Hughes will reopen Thursday, October 13. Jane Edwards will be closed for at least 5-10 days for repairs. During that time, Jane Edwards students will be bused to Minnie Hughes. Bus pickup and drop off times for Jane Edwards students will remain the same as they are now.
Several other schools (Springfield and Montessori Community Schools Campus, Chicora, James Island Middle and High Schools, Deer Park Middle, and Greg Mathis) do not have power at this time; however we are optimistic power will be restored at these sites by nightfall. If it is determined a school will not have power, updated communication will be sent out to those school communities by 8 p.m. this evening.
We have asked parents who have access to cell phones to download/use the Durham School Services Remind App. This application will notify parents if their child's bus is delayed by 15 minutes or more.
School and district administrators are aware that a few families are still experiencing hardships as a result of Hurricane Matthew's impact, and will work with those families on an individual basis.
Thank you for your support of Charleston County School District.
