NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a North Charleston police officer has been transported to MUSC after a drunk driver crashed into his patrol car on Wednesday.
NCPD officials say the early morning accident involved a police cruiser which was rear ended by a Buick LeSabre.
Police say the incident happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. at Ashley Phosphate Road and Cross County Road.
"The officer is being treated at MUSC for his injuries," police say.
According to the Highway Patrol, the police officer was stopped at a traffic light on Ashley Phosphate, when a 2009 Buick being driven by Jarad T Magwood, 33, from North Charleston, approached from the same direction, striking the police car in the rear.
"The officer was transported to an area hospital by EMS," SCHP officials said."Magwood sustained no injuries."
A report states Magwood was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence and locked up at the Charleston County Detention Center.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
