Hundreds of cadets from The Citadel will be volunteering across the Lowcountry on Wednesday for the annual Leadership Day.

More than 1,200 cadets will board buses early Wednesday morning to spend the day serving at dozens of schools, businesses, community centers, food pantries and more. They will lead classroom activities, help deliver food, clean up parks and neighborhoods, attend ethics seminars and spend the day learning from some of the top businesses in the Charleston area like Boeing, Blackbaud, Booze-Allen-Hamilton and Google Charleston.

One new service opportunity this year includes the Soldiers' Angels mobile food pantry. Cadets will help prepare meals on Leadership Day from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Altman Athletic Center. The Citadel will continue to help run the food pantry once a month, serving again Nov. 10.

Cadets will also help with the Veterans on Deck program again this year. They will clean and sailboats and go sailing with veterans.
