Joint Base Charleston Airman dies in ATV accident

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Joint Base Charleston Airman died Sunday night in an ATV accident while off-duty in Alabama, a spokesman for the base says.

Airman 1st Class Morgan Brook Blackmon, 21, from Nostasula, Alabama, was a passenger on a 2008 Ranger ATV when it overturned, JBC spokesman Marvin Krause said.

"It's a great loss to us all when we lose a member of our Air Force family. Team Charleston and I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Airman 1st Class Blackmon's family and friends during this difficult time," Col. Robert Lyman, the commander of Joint Base Charleston, said.

The single-vehicle crash happened approximately eight miles north of Tallassee, Alabama, Krause said.

Blackmon was a fuels distribution specialist assigned to the 628th Logistics Readiness Squadron since Feb. 22.

Joint Base Charleston officials say they plan to hold a memorial service for Blackmon next week at the Air Base Chapel.
