COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A Lowcountry man convicted in the murder of his girlfriend was denied parole on Wednesday.

Rodney McLeod is serving a life sentence for the 1988 murder of Debra Jenkins.

According to investigators, McLeod kidnapped Jenkins from her home in the Neyles community and took her to Beaufort County, where he beat her with a car jack, backed over her with her car and left the woman to die.

Deputies found the body of Jenkins 28 days later.

McLeod is eligible for parole every two years by state law. He was denied parole in 2014.

The penalty of life without parole in South Carolina did not exist at the time of his conviction.
