CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

CARTA will extend free service along King Street Route 20 through at least Nov. 16, assisting those affected by the closure of the Meeting Street Bi-Lo, according to a news release.

Route 20 services both King St. Food Lion and the former Bi-Lo site.

The BI-LO store closed earlier this month, a move left only two grocery stores on the downtown peninsula: a Food Lion on King Street and a Harris Teeter store on East Bay Street.

The CARTA board plans to meet again mid-November to re-evaluate ridership impact and costs regarding Route 20.
