NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County Council Chairman Elliott Summey announced he will not run for chair for the 2017 term.
"I have no intention of seeking the position of Chairman of County Council for the 2017 term," Summey said in a letter to county council members."I have enjoyed my time as the Chairman, and this Council has made great strides during my tenure."
He says it's time to step down from the leadership role and focus on his faith and family.
Summey has faced a lot of criticism after audio recordings were released of him opposing the I-526 completion project, when he has publicly supported it.
