CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Lowcountry leaders will join to show support of a half-penny sales tax referendum on next week's ballot in Charleston County.
Mayor Tecklenburg, former Mayor Riley, Representative Chip Limehouse and many others will lend their voice.
If the referendum passes, a half-cent tax to all sales in the county.
Supporters say the referendum will put $2.1 billion into the Charleston County community in order to fix local traffic problems by widening Dorchester Road, widening Main Road, building a flyover at U.S 17, widening Highway 41 and many other significant road projects. The referendum will also provide $600 million to develop a state-of-the-art transit system and offer support to protecting the greenspace in Charleston County, officials say.
A press conference will be held at 1649 Savannah Highway at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
