CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - We are proud of every member of the team here at WCSC, but we're thrilled to congratulate two Live 5 veteran journalists.
The South Carolina Broadcasters Association has honored Bill Sharpe and Debi Chard with its prestigious Masters Award. This award is for lifetime achievement as an on-air broadcaster who has made significant contributions in our state.
This is the first time two journalists from the same station have been honored at the same time.
For more than 40 years, Bill and Debi have worked side-by-side, They've reported news from across the world, interviewing everyone from the Pope to the President.
As news anchors, Bill and Debi have led Live 5's coverage through some of the Lowcountry's biggest stories and toughest times, including the devastation of Hurricane Hugo, the deaths of nine Charleston firefighters, and most recently, the deaths of nine worshipers inside a downtown Charleston church.
And Bill and Debi are in good company.
The late Charlie Hall, who signed Live 5 on the air in 1953 with the words "Channel 5 is now alive!" received this same award in 1994.
The best news is they're still going strong. Congratulations Bill and Debi. You deserve it.
