MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston premiere of the movie Hacksaw Ridge will help raise money for an outreach program.
Dr. Del Schutte, of Charleston Institute for Advanced Orthopedics, will go to Central America in February for Walk Nicaragua, a medical mission to provide joint replacement surgeries.
Schutte is the nephew of Pfc. Desmond Doss, a U.S. Army Medic whose story is portrayed in the new movie Hacksaw Ridge.
Despite being a conscientious objector of World War II who refused to bear arms, Pfc. Doss was awarded the Medal of Honor for saving more than 70 soldiers.
An early screening of the movie will be held at Cinebarre in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7pm. Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $125. Proceeds will benefit Walk Nicaragua.
