CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Aside from the impact of the historic Presidential Election, Americans nationwide are also feeling the impact of the results of state and local election results.
Here in the Lowcountry, it's time for the winning candidates to get to work.
One of the biggest ballot issues in Charleston was the half-cent sales tax increase.
It was close, but 52 percent voted yes, so the tax will happen.
The sales tax will now be nine cents on the dollar on items like clothing, shoes and electronics and is expected to raise two billion dollars to improve traffic issues; projects like widening Glenn McConnell Parkway, Dorchester Road and Highway 41.
Whether you supported the tax or not, it will happen.
Now is the time to hold our leaders accountable.
We should know when will the work start? How long will it take? How will the money be spent?
Full transparency. That's how the election process works.
