MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a Goose Creek man arrested for an October armed robbery may be a suspect in other robberies in the Lowcountry area.
Moncks Corner police arrested Martel Smalls, 31, Tuesday with the help of U.S. Marshals and the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, Moncks Corner Police Capt. Mark Fields said.
Smalls was wanted in connection with the Oct. 5 robbery of the Advance America Savings and Loan Office on Highway 52 in Moncks Corner, Fields said. Witnesses told police at the time the robber produced a handgun and fled the business on foot after robbing the business of several hundred dollars, Fields said.
Detectives say they were able to identify Smalls as the suspect in that robbery.
Fields said Moncks Corner detectives the handgun and additional evidence in the robbery and that Smalls confessed.
It is not yet clear which other robberies authorities are investigating in which Smalls may be considered a suspect.
