NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Firefighters from the North Charleston Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire Saturday morning, officials say.
The fire was in the 5000 block of Durant Avenue, NCFD PIO Bianca Bourbeau said.
First arriving firefighters reported smoke visible from a two story town home. The fire was contained in the first 10 minutes of the call with the fire contained to the room of origin, officials say.
There was smoke damage throughout the home.
The fire was caused by a child using a lighter, Bourbeau said.
Eight residents have been displaced and are being assisted by American Red Cross.
