SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Three Sangaree schools went into an administrative lockdown Friday afternoon while deputies searched the area for a suspect, the school district confirmed.
Sangaree Elementary, Intermediate and Middle Schools went on lockdown after police notified administrators a suspect wanted by law enforcement was in the area, Berkeley County School District spokesperson Katie Orvin said.
Deputies were searching for a suspect believed to be in a vehicle reported stolen in the area of the schools, Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran said. The search has since been called off, Cochran said.
By 2:30 p.m. Orvin said all three schools have since resumed normal operations.
The lockdown was a precautionary measure taken to ensure safety, she said.
