SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Summerville police have charged a North Charleston man with obstruction of justice in a shooting at a motel that left a man dead and a woman wounded.
Kyron Akeen Ucemio Hartwell, 26, faces the charge after investigators say he provided "misleading information" about his involvement in the Friday night shooting inside a motel room, an affidavit states.
Hartwell admitted to being present during a shooting that left his girlfriend wounded and a man dead but left and returned a short time later, the affidavit states.
Detectives say he later implicated himself in the crime, and "prevented and hindered the investigation by providing misleading information."
Police say Hartwell is the only person who has been arrested in the shooting, but say the investigation is ongoing.
The incident started at 10:45 p.m. Friday when officers responded to the the Econo Lodge on Holiday Drive off North Main Street for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived they found a male subject dead from a gunshot wound, and a female subject shot.
The Berkeley County Coroner identified the male victim as Khaalis Kindu Jackson, 19.
The female subject was transported to Trident Hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Summerville police say the victims are not related and investigators are not looking for suspects.
"No subjects are at large and the scene is contained," said Summerville police officials who stated they are treating the incident as a homicide.
Pictures from viewers showed officers taping a section of a hotel room off as detectives worked the scene.
In addition to police, crews with EMS, the Berkeley County Coroner's Office and fire crews were spotted in the area.
