TAKE A STAND: Lowcountry Leaders

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - As we celebrate the holiday season, it's nice to take a break from some of the bad news we see on TV and talk about the good stuff.

A special shout out to the Garrett Academy of Technology student body.

They recently completed the school's third annual Domestic Violence Service Project to benefit My Sister's House, an organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence.

They did it in grand style.  Male students attempted to walk a mile in high heels and other women's footwear.

It was quite a sight, but the boys did well. They raised hundreds of dollars in money and supplies for My Sister's House.

And congratulations to Mayra Lizeth Lomeli-Garcia, a senior at North Charleston High School.

She has been awarded the Golden Door Scholarship.

The Golden Door Scholarship is a program that invests in education by providing four-year scholarships and career access for high-performing students.

Mayra plans to attend Wake Forest University and major in Biology.

Congratulations to Mayra and to the students at Garrett Academy of Technology for being Lowcountry Leaders.
