NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A local Charleston group is in need of volunteers to serve Thanksgiving dinner Thursday!

The South Carolina Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons is holding its 10th annual Thanksgiving day dinner giveaway in Park Circle, North Charleston.

From 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. between 200 and 400 people will turn out for the dinner at the Park Circle Recreation Department.

However organizers are in need of at least 50 volunteers this year to make sure the holiday goes smoothly.

“We want to assist people on a holiday and give them some hope,” said Senior Deacon Andra Johnson. “[We want to] let them know that somebody cares about them, so we can feed people, make them smile and give them a wonderful time."

Johnson said there will be raffles, games, and live music for all the of the families who attend.

Wednesday volunteers from several organizations including Project Street Outreach were busy preparing for the big day.

"Everybody is cooking at their houses, at their businesses, or wherever,” said J. Denise Cromwell, project manager with Project Street Outreach. “They're cooking lots and lots of food for tomorrow."

Cromwell said volunteers from her organization, will be helping with the thanksgiving dinner Thursday.

Saturday Cromwell held her third annual pre-thanksgiving turkey dinner, feeding 300 veterans and other families in the area.

“The numbers get bigger and bigger every year,” she said.

Cromwell has always held her event the Saturday before Thanksgiving so she can help out her friends with the S.C. Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons at their event on Thanksgiving.

To volunteer you can sign up at Project Street Outreach, or call Brother Chavis Wood with SC. Grand Lodge AFAM at (843) 530-7534. Johnson adds you can also show up at 10 a.m. Thursday to volunteer.
