MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A Mount Pleasant Police Department report states a 32-year-old man is a suspect in connection to the death of a Mount Pleasant teen who was killed in a hit-and-run last week.

The redacted police report is in connection to the Dec. 2 incident on I-526 that took the life of 17-year-old Gracie Benjamin.

The report, which was released on Tuesday, does not give the name of the suspect or where he is from.

Investigators reported finding the vehicle in connection to the hit-and-run.

Officials with Mount Pleasant police say the investigation is ongoing.

On Friday night at 9:53 p.m., officers responded to a fatal hit and run collision on I-526 eastbound near Longpoint Road.

After the collision, a light blue Kia Sorento left the scene, police say.

Witnesses described the Kia as possibly between a 2006-2008 with grey plastic front and rear bumpers.

Authorities had said the driver appeared to be around 30 years old, and a female subject was in the passenger seat.

While the accident was being worked, all lanes on I-526 eastbound near the Long Point Road exit were closed.

In addition, SCDOT officials reported that I-526 westbound lanes in the area were closed, for a period of time.
