ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Orangeburg County Sheriff's investigators are seeking the driver of a vehicle used in an attempt to snatch an ATM from a business last month.
On Nov. 25 a witness called 911 just after 3 a.m. when an attempt to steal an ATM was in progress, deputies said.
The caller said that a subject driving a green truck had backed up to the front doors of the Scotchman Exxon, on Homestead Road in Bowman, before smashing out the door's glass.
The person in the video can be seen on security video entering the business and wrapping the ATM with a chain connected to the truck outside.
During several attempts to yank the machine from the building, the ATM was destroyed and the building structure itself is damaged severely, deputies said.
Deputies arrived minutes later, immediately blocking in the truck with Kentucky license plates to prevent the suspect from driving away.
The suspect, however, had apparently fled on foot.
The business is located at the junction of Interstate 26 and Homestead Road near Bowman.
If anyone has any information on the driver, they are asked to call the OCSO at 803-534-3550 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
