Man who hurled racial slur at TV reporter in Charleston dies

Charleston, SC (AP) -

Authorities in South Carolina say a man who hurled racial slurs at a North Carolina television news reporter, then apologized and shook the reporter's hand in court, has died.
The Charlotte Observer reports (http://bit.ly/2hmv3XD) authorities said 22-year-old Brian Eybers died Sunday at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. The Charleston County Medical Examiner's office said Eybers' death is under investigation and it will probably be several weeks until the cause is determined.
A WBTV photographer filmed the confrontation, during which Eybers directed racial slurs at veteran reporter Steve Crump and called him a former slave.
Crump and Eybers met in court on Nov. 21. After Eybers' attorney told the court that his client was in counseling and getting treatment, the two men shook hands.
